• 1869 – 1869-11-06 is the official completion date of the Pacific Railroad, as decided by the Supreme Court of the United States in 1879.^[1]

• 1917 – John Marsch, who was involved in the construction of the Wisconsin and Michigan Railway, purchases the railway from receivership for $405,000.^[2]
• 1960 – Canadian Pacific Railway officially operates its last steam locomotive when 4-4-0 number 29 pulls a special train to commemorate the event from Montreal to St. Lin.^[3]
• 1984 – The last passenger train departs from Philadelphia's Reading Terminal.
• 1996 – Ron Burns resigns from the presidency of Union Pacific Railroad.^[4]

• 2004 – Ufton Nervet rail crash - the 17:35 First Great Western departure from London Paddington to Plymouth hit a stationary car with the driver inside at an automatic level crossing, located close to the rural Berkshire village of Ufton Nervet.^[5][6]
