Nova Iguaçu is a city in southeast Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. Population: 705,485 (2004). It lies northwest from the city of Rio de Janeiro, on the outskirts limits of the metropolitan area. The city hosts a significant number of low-class immigrants from Northeastern Brazil. Current mayor is former students leader Lindbergh Farias, of Workers' Party.
Nova Iguaçu Futebol Clube is an important football (soccer) club from the city.
