A map of Novaya Zemlya with chief zones of nuclear testing activity indicated (A, B, C, with their respective geographical names), as well as the general boundaries of the testing subareas on the islands. Other geographic details are also indicated (Matochkin Shar is the straight which separates the two islands), and the two main test site settlements are also indicated (Belushya, the administrative and scientific center; Rogachevo, settlement and airport).

Satellite photograph is from NASA's Visible Earth Project[1] and as such should be in the public domain. The modifications were made by User:Fastfission in Inkscape and are released under CC-SA. The modifications were made consulting: Vitaly I. Khalturin, Tatyana G. Rautian, Paul G. Richards, and William S. Leith, "A Review of Nuclear Testing by the Soviet Union at Novaya Zemlya, 1955-1990," Science and Global Security 13 (2005): 1–42.[2]
