The following guideline is a clarification of Wikipedia:Notability (people), and outlines criteria to determine the notability of pornographic actors and actresses, for including articles on them in the Wikipedia. While the notability guideline for people has general criteria, this subset focuses on criteria most suitable to performers in this field.

[edit] Valid criteria
An erotic actor or actress may be demonstrated as notable by meeting any one of the following criteria:
- Performer has won an award from:
- Adult Film Association of America
- Adult Video News
- X-Rated Critics Organization
- Gay Adult Video News
- Adult Erotic Gay Video Awards, the "Grabbys"
- Gay Producers Association (1984–1985)
- Gay Erotic Video Awards
- Discontinued gay pornography awards
- A major pornographic magazine, such as Penthouse, Playboy, Hustler, Playgirl, or other well-known magazines, as well as their counterparts in other pornography genres.
- Performer has been a Playboy Playmate (of the Year or Month) or a Penthouse Pet (of the Year or Month), or similar titles in other major magazines.
- Performer has made unique, noteworthy contributions to his or her field.
- Is the performer noted for beginning a trend in pornography?
- Did the performer star in an iconic, groundbreaking, or blockbuster feature by industry standards?
- Performer has been the subject of a noteworthy news piece or controversy, whether through news sources covering pornography or (preferably) in "mainstream" news outlets.
- Performer has appeared multiple times in notable mainstream media outlets (the Air Force Amy rule).
- Performer has been notable or prolific within a specific genre niche.
- There is an original film (not a compilation) named after the performer.
[edit] Invalid criteria
These criteria should not be considered when defining notability for erotic actors and actresses.
- The person has a relationship with a well-known person.
- Reason: Just because the person is related to a well-known person does not make that person notable. The person should be able to be independently notable without defining notability through a relationship.
- The person has an entry on a filmography database, such as IMDB, IAFD, et al.
- Reason: Databases such as IAFD and IMDB provide information on all performers, regardless of the number of productions he or she is involved in. Since Wikipedia is not a database of all persons, the criteria used by these databases and Wikipedia are not mutually inclusive.
- The performer has many pictures and photo galleries online.
- Reason: The number of pictures does not mandate inclusion into Wikipedia.
[edit] Dubious methods of establishing notability
Owing to the nature of the profession, there exist noteworthy differences for establishing notability between typical biographies and erotic performer biographies.
- The "Google Test":
- The adult film industry uses Googlebombing to influence rankings on search engines for current performers' names. As a result, the Google test is not suitable to determine the notability of a performer. This is especially the case for performers whose work antedates the Web.
- The "Alexa" Test:
- Given Alexa's limitations, the use of Alexa as a factor to determine the notability or traffic patterns of a pornographic performer's or company's website is not subjective of all Internet users. (Traffic logs of the site's servers, on the other hand, would be a far more accurate tool, but the use of traffic logs would constitute original research.)
- "Number of films" test:
- Modern pornographic videos can be filmed in 3 days or fewer, and energetic performers can appear in dozens of films in their first year. So modern American heterosexual performers are not usually notable if they appear in fewer than 100 films. However, notable performers in the past, in other countries, and other pornographic genres tend to be much less prolific, so using any simple count of number of films that a performer starred in to determine notability is very controversial.
