Notre-Dame-des-Fleurs

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Notre-Dame des fleurs is the first novel by Jean Genet published in 1944.

The novel is a largely autobiographical account of a man's journey through the Parisian underworld. The characters are drawn after their real-life counterparts, who are mostly homosexuals living on the fringes of society.

The free-flowing, poetic novel was written in prison, but the first draft was discovered and destroyed. While still a prisoner, Genet rewrote the book. [citation needed]
