[edit] Synopsis
The film is about Nick Beam (Robbins), an advertising executive who thinks his life is going very well, until one day he comes home and discovers his wife (Preston) is apparently having an affair with his boss, which pushes him to the edge of a nervous breakdown. So when T. Paul (Lawrence), a carjacker, attempts to rob him, it is the last straw for Nick. This pushes him over the edge, and he kidnaps T. Paul on the spot and drives him to the desert. Once lost in the state of Arizona, the unlikely pair become the target of a police hunt after T. Paul robs a gas station and they evade the law.
This leads to the secondary story when two other partners in crime (resembling Nick and Paul) get blamed for the crime and pursue the couple to L.A. after a confrontation in the desert after they ram Beam's car off the road.
After escaping the real criminals, the pair devise a plan to rob Beam's boss as revenge for stealing his wife. The plan runs smoothly until, during the robbery, Beam reveals himself to the security cameras after he hacks off the large penis of his boss's fertility statue. The situation worsens, however, as the real criminal pair, waiting outside, followed them to the hotel and placed Paul in a trap for Beam to find when he returns from the bar.
Beam, after turning down a woman who hits on him, calls his wife to learn she was not at home on the day in question, and it was in fact her sister and her sister's husband he found in bed. After learning of his mistake, Beam sets things right by rescuing Paul, stopping the criminals, retrieving the money and returning it to his boss's safe.
