NoteEdit is a free music scorewriter for GNU/Linux.
It supports an unlimited number and length of staffs, polyphony, MIDI playback of written notes, chord markings, lyrics, a number of import and export filters to many formats like MIDI, MusicXML, ABC, MUP, PMX, MusiXTeX and LilyPond.
NoteEdit is written in C++, uses the Qt toolkit, and is integrated with the KDE desktop environment for Unix.

NoteEdit used to be a software child of Jörg Anders for a very long time. Since August 2004, a new development team was formed. Now there are quite a few people behind this software project:

- Leon Vinken, MusicXML

Although NoteEdit is still maintained, some of the current developers have started a new project, Canorus, to replace it, since the NoteEdit source code has certain limitations that make it difficult to maintain and improve.
