Active users who are not administrators
This is a proposed organization of active Wikipedians who make positive contributions to the encyclopedia and the community but who are not admins for one reason or another.
Organizational goals:
- Delivering to the admin community the perspective of non-functionaries, and most of the encyclopedia content is created by active editors
- Supporting each other in sharing how to serve the community as an active editor
- Helping guide newcomers into productive roles other than administration (as some seem to think admin is the only goal to aim for)
- Giving active editors good opportunities to have leadership roles in Wikipedia (most organizations' leadership is dominated by admins)
- Providing those well suited for adminship with support and training (see also Esperanza admin coaching)
- Giving awards from the active users perspective (awards to non-admins doing good jobs, and awards to admins who are the most helpful to active editors and newcomers)
Some of the reasons users are not admins:
- Chooses to serve the community as an active user rather than in an administrative role
- Chooses not to go through the sometimes rough RfA process
- Has insufficient experience to qualify as an admin
- Lacks community support to be an admin for perceived personal reasons (too controversial, civility issues, etc.)
What this organization is not:
- It is not anti-admin, both admins and non-admins have important roles to play at Wikipedia
- Note: the original concept for this group was by NoSeptember, who was an admin for about one month at the time. Further development of the group must be taken over by an interested active user.
