Etterretningstjenesten (The Norwegian Intelligence Service (NIS)) is a Norwegian military intelligence agency under the Chief of Defence and the Ministry of Defence.

The budget for 2006 is 724 million kroner (115 million USD). The budget proposition for 2007 is 815 million NOK (130 million USD). The service operates stations at the following locations:

In 1995, the Ministry of Defence confirmed that the service had operated a Stay Behind service in cooperation with CIA and MI6.

Norwegian Security Services
Police Security Agency Its mission is to detect and identify potential national security threats, analyse their presumed intentions and capabilities, and actively hinder its work.
National Security Authority Its mission is to detect and identify objects of strategic national interest, and reduce their vulnerability.
National Intelligence Service Its mission is to collect, analyse and present information from agents and foreign sources that can assist the National Security Authority and the Police Security Agency in achieving their objectives.
