Northwest Arm

The Northwest Arm is an inlet measuring approximately 3.5 km in length and 0.5 km in width that runs along the west coast of peninsular Halifax from Purcells Cove to Armdale.

Forming part of Halifax Harbour, the shores of Northwest Arm (or the "Arm" as it is known locally) are fronted by large private residences. It is also the location of several parks, notably Point Pleasant Park at the southern entrance to the Arm, the Sir Sandford Fleming Park on the western shore (containing Halifax's landmark Dingle Tower) and Deadman's Island which commemorates American soldiers who died on the island during their captivity in the War of 1812. The Atlantic School of Theology also maintains its campus along the southern part of the arm.
