Northern State is an all-white, female hip-hop group from New York, United States. The group consists of members Julie “Hesta Prynn” Goodman, Correne "Spero” Spero, and Robyn “DJ Sprout” Goodmark. The group is named after the Northern State Parkway, one of the highways on Long Island, New York State.
DJ Sprout and Spero attended Half Hollow Hills High School West and graduated in the early 1990s.
In 2003, they released the album Dying In Stereo to the public. They worked with Pete Rock, ?uestlove and DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill to help them on their second release, All City, which was released on Columbia/SME Records, but due to disagreements, the group left the label. As of 2006, they are working on a new album with Caleb Shreve from the group Shitake Monkey.
The group have toured with Le Tigre, Cake, Tegan and Sara, The Roots and De La Soul.
