Northeast High School is a High School located on Cottman Ave and Summerdale Ave in Philadelphia, PA, United States. Northeast is one of the oldest high schools in Philadelphia, founded in 1890 as the Northeast Manual Training School. Before 1958, it was located at 8th Street and Lehigh Avenue in Philadelphia. As of 2010 Northeast High School will have had 169 Graduating Classes. Some of the best known alumni include Herb Adderley(hall of fame football player), Eddie Stanky (major league baseball player and manager), Guy Rodgers (hall of fame basketball player), and Sonny Hill (organizer of Philadelphia summer basketball leagues).

At Northeast High School, there are about 3700 students. When added with the teachers and staff, the school contains almost 4000 people. When changing classes the halls are packed including many intersections including the infamous "cross-roads" where the physical education, science, and other classes meet up to change classes. Since everyone is in class during the first period, a lot of clases get full. Some classses struggle to maintain a maximum of 33 students, as the Philadelphia school contracts states.
[edit] Typical Day
Everyone usually start coming to school before 7 AM to beat the long lines scanning in with Student ID's and walking through the metal detectors and x-ray machines. The boys enter from the back entrance where the girls enter from the main and front entrance. Free breakfast is served. Lunch is served from 2nd-7th Periods because the mass amount of people in the school to feed. Advisory starts at 7:40 AM everyday except in certain situations like SAT's. Advisory is intended for the teachers and students to check in and let the teacher to mark who's present, late or absent. Sometimes, students use this time to chat with friends, study, nap, and finish homework. Students are given 5 minutes from the end of the period to use their lockers and get to their other classes. There are different kinds of bell schedules, but the three main bell schedules are called Assembly, Regular, and Half-Day. Assembly bell schedules are intended to prolong advisory until 8:19 AM while one of the Classes or Small Learning Centers have assembly so they won't miss half of their first period class. Since there are 4 graduating classes and 5 days in a week, assembly bell is mostly used. Half day is usually used when the Philadelphia School District declares one so the staff and administration will have 2-3 hours for meetings for the rest of the day. In Half Days, the periods are shorter AND two periods are dropped randomly everytime. Regular bell is rarely used, but used when all other bell schedules aren't used. The Regular Bell periods have a longer duration.

Northeast High School has the longest lasting rivalry between public schools in the country. Northeast High School has been the main competiton for Central High School in almost all sports and achedemic teams as long as anyone can remember. The height of this rivalry comes during Thanksgiving where every year, Northeast's football team faces Central's football team.

Northeast High School has many sports teams, all of which are known as The Vikings. Each year on Thanksgiving, The Vikings football team faces Central's football team, The Lancers, in a football match which is preceded by school pride dances and pep rallies. It is the longest standing rivalry in Public Schools in the country.

Northeast High School has many different programs also known as SLC's (Small Learning Centers). One of these SLC's is The Magnet Program {See Magnet School} which contains students, whose neighborhood school is not Northeast, that were all in the top of their classes in their previous schools. There are also SLC's for those who want to be in the fields of bussiness, medicine, and media as well as many others.
