Northeast, sometimes written north east, is the ordinal direction halfway between north and east. It is the opposite of southwest. See boxing the compass.
The term "northeast" is often used by itself to refer to the northeastern sector of a geographic area, or for entities based in such a region. Some examples include:
- the Atlantic Northeast region of North America
- the Northeast Division of the National Hockey League
- North-East District, Botswana
- Northeast Region, Brazil, an official grouping of states for economic and statistical purposes
- Northeast China, or Manchuria
- North East England, one of the official government regions of England.
- Nord-Est Department, Haiti
- North Eastern Province, Kenya
- North Eastern Province, Sri Lanka
- Northeast Thailand
- the northeastern United States
- North East, Maryland
- North East, New York
- North East, Pennsylvania
