Northbrook Court
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Northbrook Court is a large, indoor regional mall in Northbrook, Illinois. It is a 130 acre upscale mall, which first opened in 1976. Its three current anchor stores are Lord & Taylor, Macy's, and Neiman Marcus. Previously, the mall had an I. Magnin, which was demolished, and an AMC Theatres multiplex was built in its place, and a JCPenney (originally a Sears, as the mall was developed by a Sears subsidiary, Homart Development), and Marshall Fields was built in its place in 1995. Outside the mall, but inside the mall boundary, is a free standing Crate & Barrel store. It is located on Lake Cook Road, between the Tri-State Tollway and Edens Expressway.
A significant landmark of the mall is "The Palm" restaurant, of the national steakhouse chain. These high end steak houses are seldom located in malls.
The mall opened in 1976. The 1985 movie Weird Science had a scene that took place at the mall. In 1993, General Growth Properties purchased the mall, and remodeled it in the late 1990s to better compete with Old Orchard in Skokie, Illinois (now owned by the The Westfield Group).
