North Kingstown is a town in Washington County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 26,326 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 151.1 km² (58.3 mi²). 112.9 km² (43.6 mi²) of it is land and 38.2 km² (14.8 mi²) of it (25.28%) is water.

North Kingstown was named for King Charles II of England.
As of the census² of 2000, there were 26,326 people, 10,154 households, and 7,310 families residing in the town. The population density was 233.2/km² (603.9/mi²). There were 10,743 housing units at an average density of 95.2/km² (246.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 95.71% White, 0.97% African American, 0.55% Native American, 0.95% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 1.25% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.77% of the population.
There were 10,154 households out of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.6% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.0% were non-families. 22.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the town the population was spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 26.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.6 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $60,027, and the median income for a family was $69,559. Males had a median income of $48,668 versus $33,399 for females. The per capita income for the town was $28,139. About 5.8% of families and 7.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.6% of those under age 18 and 4.8% of those age 65 or over.

North Kingstown is the birthplace of Gilbert Stuart (1755 - 1828), the American painter whose portrait of George Washington appears on the one dollar bill.
In North Kingstown you will also find Quonset Point, a former military base which was once the home of the Naval Construction Battalions known as the SeaBees.
Wickford, a hamlet in North Kingstown, is home to the Wickford Art Festival, where a jury panel of experts selects the best art to be displayed all along roads in town. Food and drinks are served in tents and also at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where the United States' oldest working organ is housed.
