The North Carolina Panhandle is located in extreme western North Carolina in the area around Asheville.
The Panhandle of this state includes the mountainous region of the southern Appalachians and Blue Ridge Mountains, and borders South Carolina and part of Georgia to the south and Tennessee and part of Virginia to the north.
Some major sites in the panhandle include Mount Mitchell, the highest mountain east of the Mississippi River and the Biltmore Estate, the largest house in the United States.
