North Albion Collegiate Institute

North Albion Collegiate Institute is a high school in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada. It is part of the Toronto District School Board. The school opened in 1962 to serve the growing suburb known as Rexdale.
Even though North Albion was previously recognized as a school with crime and violence over the years, it has since improved its position on being more strict on students and post-secondary success rate is growing dramatically. From 2000-2004, the graduation rate rose to 40%. Recently in 2006 the school placed in the top 25 of the Ontario Grade 10 literacy test. It placed above other local schools such as West Humber Collegiate Institute, Thistletown Collegiate Institute, and even Martingrove Collegiate Institute, a school known for reasonable excellence in Academics. Now the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is even considering North Albion one of the best schools in Rexdale/Etobicoke. Many students from North Albion are gaining admisson to universities and colleges, roughly 85%.These numbers are remarkable for a school previously known for violence. The school was the first high school in Canada to offer steel band as a full credit course. School has mostly south asian people due to large community of south asians near the school. There are over 100 Patels which is one of the widely used last name in India.
