Norridgewock

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Norridgewock were a People of the Dawn, an Eastern tribe of the United States. These people occupied an area adjacent to the Penawapskewi (or Penobscot) tribe, which was located on the western bank of what is now known as the Penobscot River in the U.S. State of Maine. With the advent of newcomers to the area, the Norridgewock left their neighbors and rerooted in what is now known as Quebec.

There is a town called Norridgewock on Maine's Kennebec River where English forces massacred 80 Native women and children, and their missionary, Father Sebastian Rasle, in 1724.
