Norman Then
Norman Then was a contestant in the 2nd season of Singapore Idol. At the time of the show, he was studying in a poly. He loves singing and may sing everywhere with or without the guitar. One of his idols is Jamie Cullum. He enjoys playing soccer.
His idol journey
Norman's idol journey started during the auditions. When he got to the top 28, he was grouped with six other men in the piano show. Out of the seven guys, only two would end up in the top 12. The two guys turned out to be Paul Twohill and Jonathan Leong, two very strong contenders, and Norman did not even get a third out of the seven. His singing was "one-toned" singing, as described by judge Dick Lee. However, Norman's idol journey did not end there. He was invited back to the judges' wildcard show. His rather pleasant rendition of "These are the Days" by Jamie Cullum, earned him a place in the top 12 through the judges' choice. He was also known as the black horse of the competition because many did not expect him to sail through to the top 12.
However, in the first spectaculars, which is the theme of "parents' song choice", his parents chose him the song "High and Dry", which proved to be a very unwise choice. Judge Dick Lee even added that he had seen the limit of the vocal ability of Norman.
The next night, during the results show, the top 12 idols were placed in 3 groups, 4 in each. Norman was placed in Group 2. Group 3, followed by Group 1, was announced to be safe, leaving Norman and three other idols on the centre stage, receiving the bottom four votes. Mathilda was announced to be safe for the week, leaving Nurul Maideen, Norman Then and Jonathan Leong in the bottom three. After a long wait, its time to reveal the eliminated contestant. "I'm very sorry," said host Gurmit Singh, "but your idol journey ends tonight...... Norman." Then, Norman was asked to sing his exit song, after being shown a video of his idol journey.
