Norman McCay

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Norman McCay is a priest and the witness to the almost Biblical events in the Elseworlds story Kingdom Come.

[edit] History

McCay was the friend of the former Sandman until he died incanting a prophecy to the future events involving the super-heroes.

McCay is saddened by this, and is then contacted by the Spectre to witness all of the events in the story. No one, however, is able to see him for most of the duration. He only appears twice, both times to Superman. He attempts to tell Superman that the apocalypse will result from their future actions, but Superman is confused by his sudden appearance and does not understand his frenzied warning. Before he is able to interfere, Superman must leave.

McCay then sees the final battle involving the Outsiders, the Justice League, and the renegade future super-heroes. After the nuclear bomb kills most of the metahumans, Superman (unaware of any survivors), threatens to destroy the United Nations in revenge for the destruction of the meta-humans. McCay appears again to him, explaining that his behavior is the reason humans fear meta-humans. In reaction, Superman avoids revenge, and sees the survivors.

In a way, McCay has helped save humanity and shown hope for the surviving meta-humans.
