Noregs Mållag
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Noregs Mållag (unofficial translation: The Language Organisation of Norway) is the main organisation for Norwegian Nynorsk (New Norwegian), one of the two official written standards of Norwegian language.
Noregs Mållag has about 12,000 individual members and consists of approximately 200 local groups. This includes the youth organization, Norsk Målungdom.
Noregs Mållag works towards the promotion of Nynorsk in every field of Norwegian society. Today, approximately 640,000 Norwegians use Nynorsk as their primary written language. However, Nynorsk supporters often claim that the majority of the population speak dialects more closely represented by Nynorsk than by Bokmål, the main written form of Norwegian.
