Nordschleife fastest lap times
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany with its remaining 20.8km long old section dating from 1927 is used by various motoring magazines and vehicle manufacturers for testing. Lap times of so-called "road legal" "production" cars are reported for comparison or promotion purposes.
The German magazine de:sport auto publishes its "Supertest" of cars, in which the laptime (usually driven by editor-in-chief Horst von Saurma) at the Nordschleife is the most discussed result. The magazine also runs a challenge for the fastest lap time driven with a car that is road legal (TÜV) and registered in Germany. The road legality rule also applies for the tires.
Not all of the following laptimes are comparable. The complete de:Nordschleife is 20.832 km long. de:Sport auto uses in its "Supertest" the old drive-up at grandstand 13, so that they only do 20.6 km. Some laptimes are even done on tourist driving days. Because of the different drive-up on tourist days (at the fastest straight) these laps are timed "bridge to gantry", which is 19.1 km.
In average the same driver should be like 7 sek. faster doing the de:Sport auto 20.6km and like 25 sek. faster doing the tourist-lap. Because it is forbidden to race on tourist days you should not try to measure your laptime on a tourist day.
