Nordanstig Municipality

Nordanstig is a Municipality in Gävleborg County, in east central Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 1378.8 km², with a population of 10282, (5218 male, and 5064 female), and a population density of 7 inhabitants per km².
The municipal seat is located in Bergsjö, at , with 1,300 inhabitants. Other towns are : Strömsbruk, Stocka, Gnarp, Harmånger, Ilsbo, Hassela and Jättendal.
It also has one sister city: Holeby in Denmark.

The name Nordanstig can be traced from 1358, and became the name of a parish. The current municipality was created in 1974 by joining four smaller municipalities.

The manufacutring industry provides 25% of the employment; service and communications 14%; agriculture, forest and fishing industries 6%; education and research 9%.

- Plyfa AB - 80 employees
- SMP Parts - 50 employees
- Hassela utbildningscenter - 40 employees
- Tjärnviks Trä AB - 40 employees

The current municipal arms was designed in the midth 80's. It depicts: A horse to symbolize the forest and agricultural industry; the net symbolizes fishing and six net mesh to symbolize the six municipal parishes (Hassela, Bergsjö, Ilsbo, Gnarp, Jättendal and Harmånger).
