Nord-Varanger

Nord-Varanger is a former municipality in Finnmark county, Norway.
From 1837 it was known as Vadsø landsogn and was united with the kjøpstad (market town) Vadsø under Vadsø municipality. On 1 January 1894 Vadsø landsogn took the name Nord-Varanger and gained status as a separate municipality. At that time Nord-Varanger had a population of 1.296.
On 1 January 1964 Nord-Varanger, then with 1.587 inhabitants, was reunited Vadsø municipality.
