Nord-Aurdal is a municipality in the county of Oppland, Norway.

The Norse form of the name was Aurardalr. The first element is the genitive case of a (lost) rivername Aur (now called Bøaelve), the last element is dalr m 'valley, dale'. The old rivername is derived from aurr m 'gravel'.

The name Nord-Aurdal means '(the) northern (part of) Aurdal'. (The parish of Aurdal was divided in 1805.)

The coat-of-arms is from modern times. It shows three flowerheads of Snow Gentian.

Nord-Aurdal municipality is north of Sør-Aurdal municipality, east of Etnedal and Gausdal municipalities, and south of Øystre Slidre and Vestre Slidre municipalities in Oppland county. To the west, it is bordered by Hemsedal and Gol in Buskerud county.

Nord-Aurdal is 52.4 km on the north-south axis and 43.3 km on the east-west axis.

The municipality lies in the west of the Fylke Oppland county. Although Fagernes is the administration center, formerly Aurdal was the administrative center for the municipality Aurdal.

The highest point in Nord-Aurdal is the Duptjernkampen at 1,325 meters. About 50% of the land is above 900 meters.

Nord-Aurdal is part of the traditional district of Valdres in central, southern Norway, situated between the valleys of Gudbrandsdal and Hallingdal.

Tisleifjorden and Aurdalsfjorden are large inland lakes in Nord-Aurdal .

The larger settlements of the municipality are Aurdal, Fagernes and Leira.

North Aurdal's coat-of-arms shows the Gentiana Nivalis (Latin).

The municipality is served by Fagernes Airport, Leirin.
