Nor (Wicked)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nor is the daughter of Fiyero and Sarima in Wicked by Gregory Maguire. Nor is the youngest of the children of Fiyero and has to put up with her brothers, Manek and Irji. She and Irji shared a bond for a portion of the novel, as they worked together to stand up against Manek. After Manek's death, that bond disintegrated, and Nor became more independent. Many times in the novel, she has taken off her blouse and put a cape over her body so she could feel exposed or 'free.' Nor was the one who first made Elphaba see that her broom was magical. She enjoys snooping around Elphaba's room and possessions. She was taken away by the Gale Force, and (at the end of Wicked) was being held captive by the Wizard.

In Son of a Witch, Liir goes on a quest of sorts to look for Nor, who was the only person who had ever given him a sort of kindness. Nor is only seen in flashbacks, but at the end of the novel, Liir still believes in her existence, due to a graffiti of 'Elphaba lives' on a wall. Liir, who denies being Elphaba and Fiyero's bastard son, has a somewhat romantic interest in her, although this would be incest.

Nor is often described as a small skinny dark girl with a big smile.

Nor is not present in the musical presentation of Wicked. This is because Sarima was not introduced in the musical; thus, Fiyero and Sarima never were married, and Nor was never born.
