Countries by Nobel laureates

The list shows nationalities of the laureates, as stated at the official website of the Nobel Prize. Some laureates are listed under more than one country: for instance, if their country of birth and/or nationality differs from their country of residence. In these cases, a star (*) appears next to their name when it is listed under their birth country, and their country of birth appears in italics next to their name in all other lists. Organisations which were founded in a single country are marked by two asterisks (**).

[edit] Laureate count per nation

Note: count per nation is not accurate as it is based on those laureates listed above. The list also does not take into account the effects of sharing, violating the Nobel Prize conservation law: the sum of the prizes per year is constant, only the number of laureates varies. For example, since Glauber (US), Hall (US) and Hänsch (Germany) shared the physics prize of 2005, the list below simply adds 2.00 points to the US count and 1.0 to the German count, instead of adding 0.75 to the US count and 0.25 to the German count (Hänsch and Hall each got only 0.25 of the prize, Glauber got 0.5).
