Just saw it, very nice. Are the lyrics in the public domain? ~ trialsanderrors 06:37, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure. Now I'm trying to think how I might prove that... I figure pretty much everything from the '30s is PD.-MrFizyx 07:00, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Rule of thumb is death of the author plus 70 years, so in this case 1941 + 70 = 2011. Not yet. ~ trialsanderrors 07:04, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Dunno, I found one site claiming the lyrics were trad (and thus PD) and that A.P. just set it to music, I think the authorship is so uncertian on this that it's likely PD. We could replace them with an external link. I'm leaving it for now, but I'll continue to look around. -MrFizyx 07:22, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
I just checked my copy of No Depression the album, and it says "used with permission". ~ trialsanderrors 07:33, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
I assume they also credit A.P. Carter--I'm still trying to find a better source on the James Vaughn credit.-MrFizyx 07:41, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Do you know this for sure? I only saw the one mention on one of the webpages. Maybe we should put it as claim rather than fact. ~ trialsanderrors 08:40, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
OK, done. I found two cites making this claim, the Folk Music Index which spelled his name Vaughn, and some random Amazon review (which I don't count for much). There is some corraboration from sources that describe their partnership, whithout any reference to this particular song. -MrFizyx 09:08, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Added one, although Vaughn seems to be a music publisher, so this might be an error. books.google.com is usually helpful for stuff like that. ~ trialsanderrors 10:01, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
