[edit] Plot
Two Wraith hive ships are on their way to Earth. It is up to the Atlantis team to rescue them and figure out a way to stop the Wraith from reaching a "new feeding ground".
After their temporary alliance with the Wraith backfires, the Atlantis team must find a way to stop two Wraith hive ships that are heading for Earth and which have captured Dr. McKay and Ronon Dex. The team calculates that the Wraith hive ships must exit hyperspace and stop in order to let their organic components rest. Dr. Weir orders Colonel Caldwell to attack the hive ships using the Daedalus and the Orion before she is ordered to return to Earth to account for her team's failures.
Colonel Sheppard, who was able to survive by latching his F-302 to the hull of a Wraith ship, is forced to rely on a now ostracized Michael to help him save McKay and Ronon. Ronon and McKay are able to free themselves from their cocoon prisons with a plan to sabotage the ship in a last act of heroism. Shepperd and Michael manage to link up with Ronon and McKay, and Sheppherd is forced to convince Ronon not to kill Michael.
All plans collide as the earth battleships Daedalus and Orion engage the hive ships while Sheppard, McKay and Ronon are still aboard. A monumental space battle occurs with the Orion, destroying one of the hive ships. Unfortunately, the Orion had to sacrifice its shields in order to use its weapons, and it is quickly destroyed by the other hive ship. Fortunately, the Daedalus manages to beam the crew of the Orion to safety. Sheppherd and the others manage to disable the hive ship's beam-jamming codes and are beamed aboard the Daedalus. The space battle continues and both ships suffer heavy damage. Unfortunately, the Daedalus has expended all of its nuclear warheads, and its life support system is disabled, giving the crew approximately nine hours of air. In order to save themselves, the crew comes up with a crazy plan.
The crew prepares the Wraith retrovirus and manages to beam it onto the hive ship, since the jammer codes are disabled. With all the Wraith onboard turned into humans with no memories, the human boarding party meets almost no resistance save the Wraith Queen, whom they quickly eliminate. The Deadalus crew now has air, a number of Wraith prisoners, and a fully functional Wraith hive ship.
[edit] Notes
- The Orion has been destroyed.
- Not counting the captured vessel, this marks the confirmed (on-screen) destruction of eight Wraith hive ships and two cruisers at the hands of agents of Earth or as a direct result of their actions. The three hive ships that initially attacked Atlantis were destroyed (one by the Ancient weapons satellite, one by a Puddle Jumper carrying a nuclear bomb that entered a Dart hangar bay and detonated, and one by the Daedalus beaming a nuclear warhead into the ship,) and the Daedalus managed to destroy two more by beaming nuclear weapons onboard before the Wraith established their jamming fields. Two cruisers were destroyed by the destruction of the Aurora, and Sheppard tricked two Wraith hive ships into firing on, and destroying, each other.
- Beckett's retrovirus was an almost-complete success, transforming every Wraith on the Hive ship (with the exception of the Queen) and erasing their memories.
- The Wraith known as Michael is considered a pariah amongst the rest of the Wraith because of the retrovirus experiments on him. He is now again in the custody of the Atlantis team, but this time willingly.
- The International Oversight Administration is losing faith in Dr Weir's ability to lead the Atlantis expedition. She has returned to Earth to face an IOA deposition and must remain there until the Daedalus returns.
- General Hank Landry is a staunch supporter of Dr Weir and her command abilities.
- The IOA is seriously considering removing the ZPM from Atlantis and instead using it on Earth to defend against the Ori.
- This episode features many crossover characters, including General Landry (Beau Bridges), Sgt. Walter Harriman (Gary Jones)' and firsts for Woolsey (Robert Picardo), Chinese Ambassador Xiaoyi (Tamlyn Tomita), and British Representative Chapman (Andy Maton).
- General Landry (Beau Bridges) previously appeared in Critical Mass, and The Intruder.
- Sgt. Walter Harriman (Gary Jones) previously appeared in Critical Mass, and Letters From Pegasus.
- Woolsey (Robert Picardo) previously appeared in SG-1's Heroes (Part 2), Inauguration, Prototype, The Scourge, and Flesh And Blood.
- Chinese Ambassador Shen Xiaoyi (Tamlyn Tomita) previously appeared in SG-1's The Scourge, and Crusade.
- British Representative Chapman (Andy Maton) previously appeared in SG-1's The Scourge.
- Dr. Beckett doesn't appear in this episode.
[edit] Quotes
- McKay: I did this. I'm responsible for the destruction of my planet!"
Ronon: "If any one was going to do it, it'd be you. - Weir: So what do they really want?
Landry: To point fingers, and cover their asses.
Weir: I am honestly not sure how I will respond to that, sir.
Landry: They're bureaucrats, Elizabeth. You'll have ‘em for breakfast. - Sheppard: It'll be a walk in the park…a big, scary park, full of monsters who are trying to kill me.
- Sheppard: Operation: This Will Likely End Badly is a go.
- McKay: Don't just stand there! Cut me loose!
Ronon: Only if you put a stop to all this "We're gonna die, there's no hope" talk.
McKay: Well now there is hope.
