The Niokolo-Koba National Park lies in south eastern Senegal against the Guinean border. It was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1981.
The River Gambia flows through the national park, which is known for its wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, chimpanzees, baboons, hippopotamuses and the Western giant eland.
