Nintendo World
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nintendo World, located in New York City at Rockefeller Center, is Nintendo's flagship specialty store. It sells all sorts of Nintendo video games and merchandise, including apparel, hardware, and accessories that are exclusive to the store. The store replaced the Pokémon Center store that originally stood in the building, and has since been moved to a section of the building. Visitors can also play the latest games in several kiosks, including a Game Boy Advance Sampling Bar (complete with "Gametenders") and Multiplayer Wall; GameCube Pods, where players sit in egg-shaped chairs that vibrate along with the games and have built-in stereo speakers; Game Stations, each of which supports up to four players simultaneously; and the Nintendo DS Lite Circle and Multiplayer Wall, which use wireless technology to link up fellow gamers. Every first Sunday of the month there is a competition for a top selling game. Registration begins about two weeks before the actual date.
The New York City Nintendo World store is also notable for housing a prototype of the Nintendo Advanced Video System, an early design of the Nintendo Entertainment System, as well as several cancelled accessories, as part of a historical exhibit of Nintendo hardware.
This was the location for a celebration of Nintendo's pre-E3 2006 Press Conference and VIP party on May 9, 2006. This was also the location for the DS Lite Launch on June 11, 2006 at around midnight.
Nintendo World was a stop on the Nintendo Fusion Tour on October 3rd at 12 noon, when Hawthorne Heights performed an acoustic set there.
On November 4, 2006, Nintendo World allowed guests to try out the Wii console. With over ten stations from the E3 Show in May 2006, guests were able to try out several games including The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, and Wii Sports. The stations are now permanent to the store.
