Nimrodel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Tolkien's Middle-earth, Nimrodel was the name of both a river and an Elf of Lórien.

Nimrodel was the beloved of Amroth, last Silvan Elf lord of Lórien. She lived near the river in a tree-house, and when Balrog appeared in Moria she fled to join her beloved, who was waiting at Edhellond, to leave from Middle-earth for Valinor. However Nimrodel and her companions were lost in the Ered Nimrais.

Mithrellas was a Silvan Elf, a companion of Nimrodel who fled Lórien with her. She was taken in by Imrazôr the Númenórean and bore him a son, Galador, and a daughter, Gilmith. Soon after she slipped away in the night, never to be seen again.

After Nimrodel and Amroth had both been lost the river was named after her. This river began in the foothills of the Hithaeglir under the mountain Celebdil (Silvertine), and then flowed through Lórien until it met the Celebrant (river Silverlode).
