[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Steve_Mazur2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Steve_Mazur2.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Carnildo or ask for help at Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. Thank you.

[edit] Images, copyright and such.

Wikipedia is about creating a free content ensyclopedia, this means all our content have to be under a free licence (not to be confused with available at no cost), wich basicaly means that anyone is allowed to distribute, copy, modify and even sell the content (provided autors are credited and such). The only way for something to be free content is to have the copyright holder explicitly say that he release his or her work under such a licence, this is because by law all original creative works (such as photos) are automaticaly granted full exclusive copyright protection to the author of the work. So a copyright notice is not required, if something is not explicitly labeled as free content it's fully copyright protected and not suitable for Wikipedia. You can naturaly ask a copyright holder if he is willing to release his work under a suitable free licence, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for details.

One possible exception is fair use, however Wikipedia only allow fair use in a few very narrowly defined cases where no free licensed alternatives exist. Please make sure an image meed all the critereas listed at Wikipedia:Fair use#Policy before uploading it and claiming fair use. --Sherool (talk) 09:32, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Michael Anthony Maida?

Hey, I saw someone changed Raine Maida's birthname to Michael Anthony Maida. I was going to change it back to Michael Raine, until I saw you were the one who made the change, and you're usually pretty knowledgeable on all things OLP. Still, I'd like to know where you got this information? In every article I've ever read about him, Raine was given as his middle name, so this is certainly news to me.
