In New Zealand a Private Training Establishment (PTE) is generally a privately owned, for profit company, or a community funded organization, it is generally accepted that PTE's do not offer the same qualifications as Universities and public tertiary providers (i.e. Certificates and Diplomas are generally accepted as the highest qualification while Universities generally offer higher level degrees).
Private Training Establishments at present, are governed under New Zealand law by the Education Act, 1989 (Part 18), which sets parameters for various aspects of the running of a PTE.
