Night goblin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Night goblins are a subspecies of the Goblin race in the Warhammer Fantasy fictional universe. Unlike their cousins, the Common Goblins, Night Goblins live in dark caves under the mountains and generally have a strong aversion to sunlight, so when they come out of their caves they wear dark robes which protect them from sunlight. They subsist on various fungi, cave squigs and bits of each other.
[edit] Characteristics
Night goblins have an exceptional knowledge of various types of fungus, which helps them to field troops like the night goblin fanatics. These night goblins drink a brew made of fungus known as the Mad Cap Mushroom which gives them extraordinary powers thanks to its strengthening effect. It also makes them immune to pain and unaware of their surroundings. When in battle, they carry a huge ball of steel attached to a chain which would be impossible for them to carry unless they have drunk the fungus beer. Night goblins keep these fanatics hidden in their regiments, where they hold the fanatics still — since once free, with the ball in hand, they start whirling and spinning frantically around — regardless of the direction, so it is possible that a fanatic gets confused enough to plunge back into the ranks of their fellow companions instead the enemy. Knowing this, the night goblins do not release the fanatics too early — they wait until the enemy comes close enough and release the fanatics, hoping for the best. Night goblin fanatics are known to have decimated entire regiments of heavy cavalry single-handedly, such is the force of their weapon.
Night goblin shamans are also familiar with the Shaman Mushroom, which gives them additional magic powers.
Night goblins are good at hunting cave squigs, which is their primary food source. They hunt these with huge weighted nets and they often use these nets in battle in order to entangle their opponents. They also herd squigs into battle and some of the bravest (or stupidest) night goblins ride, or rather hang to, these beasts just like ordinary mounts. Normally squigs are just pushed towards the enemy hoping the enemy gets the squigs' attention and the squigs don't attack the night goblins first.
Just like the common goblins, night goblins aren't very exceptional fighters but can be quite an opponent when faced in great numbers. They are very prolific, and an individual's life doesn't matter -- there is always another one to replace him.
