Night Terror (ナイト・テラー Naito Terā) is a fictional character designed for the Soul Series of fighting games. Night Terror made his first and, to date, only appearance in Soul Calibur III as the most difficult enemy in Tales of Souls mode. It can be argued that storywise he is the most powerful creature to have ever existed so far.

[edit] Biography
-Excerpt taken from SCIII character profiles:
When an action is so reckless that it will bring about one's own destruction, it is often too late by the time one realizes it. For Zasalamel, the appearance of Night Terror was a perfect example of this.
Even Zasalamel had underestimated the power of the cursed sword. It far surpassed that of his secret arts. During the ritual when Zasalamel attempted to take the power of Soul Edge for himself, it fused with not only the summoned Nightmare, but with even the power of Soul Calibur, becoming a terrible incarnation of pure destructive will. It is likely that Zasalamel never even saw its form: Night Terror. Perhaps it had retraced the memories of the blue armor, or perhaps it had a remnant of the self-will that had formed while it used Siegfried as a host. Whatever the case, this entity bore a slight resemblance to Nightmare. It easily escaped Zasalamel's control and appeared behind him, wielding its power like a raging current, and obliterated him.
The man who had craved death met his end - though not in the way he had intended. In his place, an unprecedented catastrophe gained wing and claw and was released upon the world.
[edit] Weapon
[edit] Soul Edge (Complete)
After the energies of Soul Edge combine with Soul Calibur and the remains of Nightmare, it is able to finally achieve complete restoration. Soul Edge, now in a complete state, is the strongest weapon (story-wise), and has acquired the form of a Zweihänder, probably thanks to its memories of Siegfried/Nightmare's style.
[edit] Stages
[edit] Chaos - Spiritual Realm (SC3)
No matter who they might be, those who take the evil sword Soul Edge into their hands come face-to-face with the blade as it invades their minds. When this happens, they see the very spirit of the cursed weapon. Upon entering this dimension devoid of life, an otherworldly landscape greets them. In this place exists no heaven, no earth. No reality - merely the sinister-yet-beautiful waves given off by Soul Edge, and the countless souls trapped by the wicked blade. The fate of those who visit this place - whether they hold strong to their will and win against Soul Edge, or become a new offering to the cursed sword - is known only to those who take the evil sword into their hands...
Note: Night Terror shares this realm with Abyss
[edit] Character analysis
If Night Terror were selectable, it would undoubtedly be the strongest character in the game, unmistakably broken tier. Night Terror's style is similar to both Nightmare's and Siegfried's, but with added speed, strength and range. It boasts a significant arsenal of projectile and ranged moves including a laser beam and a shockwave that can repel any approaching enemies. More surprisingly, Night Terror can fly, and thus cannot be ringed out. Night Terror is often compared to Jinpachi Mishima, the Tekken 5 boss, for having "unfair" moves.
[edit] Trivia
- Night Terror is a secret optional boss in Soul Calibur III, and can only be reached following certain conditions in Tales of Souls: one must follow a certain path (unique for each character) and not lose a single fight including Olcadan's "Prepare to Defend Yourself" battle. Also, the player cannot Ring Out the 6th opponent, or the path to Olcadan will not appear.
- When fighting Night Terror in Tales of Souls, characters that have Soul Calibur or Soul Edge for an ultimate weapon are not given it to fight with as they are when they fight Abyss.
- Night Terror cannot be unlocked normally in the game, only through use of a cheating device (such as Action Replay Max). Without one of those, it can't be used. Upon defeating it in Tales of Souls, its profile is unlocked. It appears in the Profile Viewer, where the "Random" box is normally found.
- Oddly enough, Night Terror's wings are shown as part of its weapon in Soul Archive.
- Thanks to Night Terror's wings, it cannot be ringed out. If that occurs, an animation will begin showing how Night Terror flies its way back to the ring. Then the battle resumes, with the characters' positions reset. However, Night Terror can be rang out after being defeated, and it can ring itself out after winning a battle.
- Night Terror can also be seen in Nightmare's input ending, where if the screen command is fulfilled, Nightmare transforms into Night Terror after crashing into one of the rooftops. It also has a Soul Arena Mission of its own: "Final Battle".
- In Soul Calibur III: Arcade Edition, Night Terror returns as one of 3 different Bosses at the end of Standard Mode.
- Until the next installment of the series is released, Night Terror's existence on canon is unknown.
- Night Terror's form of Soul Edge (Complete) is far different from any other form of Soul Edge seen previously, as it is neither red, nor does it have an eye on it - compared to Nightmare's Soul Edge (Complete) (SC2) which was burnt orange and covered with eyes. Rather, it has a mouth with fangs.
