Nigerian gospel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gospel music is a kind of African Christian music that has become a major part of Nigerian music, beginning in the 1970s. Tope Alabi, Onyeka Onwenu, and Sammie Okposo are the most popular stars of the genre. Tope Alabi's "Oore ti o common" (Uncommon favour) has made this unassuming female singer/songwriter, with a velvet voice, a household name in Nigeria today. Also, Okposo's 2000 "Welu Welu" was one of the biggest-selling singles in Nigerian history.
A number of gospel artists have released into the nigerian gospel market spirituals music that is quite commendable such as AMAA, Foluke Umosen, Soji Israel, Segun Obe, Samsung among others.
