Nigerian Premier League

The Nigerian Premier League (NPL) is the highest level of domestic Nigerian soccer. The NPL was upgraded from the first division of the Nigerian League in 2004. It is fed into by the two First Division groups: the Nigerian Division 1-A and Nigerian Division 1-B.
The following clubs are taking part in 2006, with the final 2005 position included after the team's location:

- Kaduna United FC - 1st in Division 1-A
- Kano Pillars F.C. - 11th
- Kwara United F.C. -- (Ilorin) - 10th
- Lobi Stars -- (Makurdi) - 9th
- Nasarawa United --(Lafia) - 13th
- Niger Tornadoes --(Minna) - 14th
- Ocean Boys FC -- (Brass) - 1st in Division 1-B
- Ranchers Bees (sometimes known as Ranch Bees) -- (Kaduna) - 2nd in Division 1-B

After the 2006 competition, the league may change its calendar to more closely match the common European regular season structure, i.e. starting around August and ending around May. This is subject to ratification from the NPL Congress.
