Nigel Lythgoe

Nigel Lythgoe (born July 9, 1949) is a television/film director and producer. He is president of 19 Television Limited but is best known as an executive producer (along with Simon Fuller) and occasional director for the hit series American Idol and Pop Idol. Previously to his post at 19 Entertainment he held the post of Head of Entertainment and Comedy of London Weekend Television (L.W.T), generally considered one of the most sought after and well respected jobs in British Broadcasting.

He was the main judge on the ITV Show Popstars; the TV show that spawned the ill-fated Hear’Say and led the way to a host of other singing contests such as Pop Idol. He also hosted the short-lived 2002 television series The Enemy Within. In 1976 he was a floor director for the television series The Muppet Show. He began as a dancer with the BBC's Young Generation dance troupe in the early 1970s. He is currently a judge in and the producer of So You Think You Can Dance, on the FOX television network.

He is married to Bonnie Lythgoe, who was also an audition judge on the first and second seasons of So You Think You Can Dance.
