Nigel Bridge, Baron Bridge of Harwich

Nigel Cyprian Bridge, Baron Bridge of Harwich PC (born 26 February 1917) is a British barrister and judge.

The son of the Commander Cyprian Dunscomb Charles Bridge was educated in Marlborough School, Marlborough, and Open University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in mathematical sciences in 2003. Bridge served in the King's Royal Rifle Corps, reaching the rank of Captain, and fought in the Second World War. In 1947, he was called to the Bar Inner Temple, working as a Barrister-at-Law. He was made a Bencher in 1964. From 1964 to 1968, he was Junior Counsel of the Treasury, from 1968 to 1975 High Court Judge of the Queen's Bench, and from 1972 to 1974 Presiding Judge of the Western Circuit. Knighted in 1968, Bridge was appointed Privy Counsellor in 1975. Bridge was a Lord Justice of Appeal between 1975 and 1980, and member of the Securities Commission between 1977 and 1982, and chairman between 1982 and 1985. From 1980 to 1992, he was Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, created additionally a life peer with the title Baron Bridge of Harwich, of Harwich, in the County of Essex on his appointment. In 1986, he became Treasurer of Inner Temple.

Bridge has been married to Margaret Swinbank, daughter of Leonard Heseltine Swinbank, since 1944; they have three children, two daughters and one son.
