Nieuw Israëlitisch Weekblad

The Nieuw Israëlitisch Weekblad (New Israelite Weekly) (NIW) is the oldest Jewish weekly and also the oldest news magazine still functioning in the Netherlands. Founded on August 4th 1865 it tries to inform (on) the Jewish community on issues concerning Jews and Judaism in the Netherlands and the world. It has its headquarters in Amstelveen.

The staff is compromised out of the following persons:

  • Jigal Markuszower (chairman, treasurer)
  • John Koekoek (vice-chairman)
  • Marco Lobatto (secretary)
  • Gabrielle van Gelderen
  • Dov Rychter

Managing editor is Elise Friedman. The NIW has some 6,000 subscribers. To enlarge the number of readers, the NIW started a modernization of the weekly in 2001, but this has had only minimal effect on the number of subscribers so far.
