I am currently studying History at the University Of Wales, Swansea and am in my first year. In my spare time i like to read about subjects that interest me and thought that i could also use spare time to add to existing articles and expand stubs that interest me on Wikipedia.

[edit] Interests
Being a History student, i obviously am interested in History but i am also very much interested in, and like to think i have a good knowledge of music.
[edit] Music
I am predominantly interested in blues music. I listen to delta blues artists such as Robert Johnson and Skip James, British blues artists, such as Eric Clapton and Matt Schofield, and Chicago blues such as Buddy Guy and Jimmy Rodgers, amongst many others. Naturally these artists lead to other genres of music such as the psychedelic rock of Clapton's Cream/Blind Faith days so i am also interested in these styles. Aside from the blues, i also have knowledge of music from other genres such as (classic) hip hop, jazz, heavy metal, classic rock and Rhythm and Blues (the Rolling Stones type, not the Destinys Child type). Playing guitar has meant that i listen to primarily guitar orientated bands and naturally the artists whom i can appreciate the most are those who are talented players and who i can (hopefully) attempt to learn something from.
[edit] History
Although i have to do some work for university, the first year modules are not a particular interest of mine and the tiny range of first year modules is limiting. I do still read around other subjects that i find interesting in my own time, however. The obvious crossover for this is the history of the blues and the history of music which i do put a lot of my time into studying. Other historical interests lie in the history of the Balkans (particularly Montenegro, Serbia and Croatia) including the rise and fall of Yugoslavia. I also enjoy South American history, particularly the Cuban Revolution and pre-colonial Peruvian (and surrounding) civilisations, such as the Incas and Nazcas. I have also recently begun to enjoy looking at historical balances of world power and relating it to that of today (for example, the demise of empires and unipolarity to restore a global power balance, and comparing it to the unipolar state of today).
