Nicolae Vasilescu-Karpen

Nicolae Vasilescu-Karpen (1870, Craiova-1964) was a Romanian engineer who pioneered the field of telegraphy and telephony; other fields in which he had great achievements were mechanical, elasticity, thermodynamics, long distance telephony, electrochemistry , civil engineering.

In 1908 he invented the "Karpen Pile", which produces electrical power since then, without interruption, for almost 100 years.
