Nicola and the Viscount is a 2002 novel by Meg Cabot.

Nicola is a 16 year old orphan who's starting her first London season. She's staying with the wealthy Bartholomew family, and she couldn't be more excited. Their son, the viscount Lord Sebastian, is quite charming and handsome. Nicola believes that he is her one, and hopes to get a proposal. The only flaw in her plan is that her best friends brother, Nathaniel Sheridan, won't stop commenting negatively about the viscount. As Nicola starts looking into what Nathaniel says, she sees the puzzle as a whole, and discovers what she really needs to do.
