Nick Sakiewicz
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nick Sakiewicz (born January 14, 1961) is the president of AEG Soccer New York/New Jersey.
Sakiewicz became the General Manager of the Tampa Bay Mutiny of Major League Soccer in 1996, and was named MLS Executive of the Year in 1999. On the heels of that success, he was hired to replace Charlie Stillitano as the MetroStars' general manager, and was promptly named MLS Executive of the Year in 2000 as well.
Sakiewicz claims in his official bio that he played for FC Nantes of France and Belenenses of Portugal in the 1980s. His apparent success in Tampa Bay went nowhere; two years after Sakiewicz was gone, the team folded.
In 2005, Sakiewicz was promoted to a newly-created position of president of AEG Soccer New York/New Jersey, and Alexi Lalas took over as the MetroStars GM. The Passaic, New Jersey native received considerable criticism for his struggles to secure a stadium for the Metrostars and appears to be leaving the organization having accomplished his biggest goal, with Red Bull Park slated for a 2008 opening.
