Nick Debarr

Nicholas Adam Debarr (born August 24, 1983 in Hayward, California) is a pitcher with the the Boston Red Sox. Debarr played in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization before being selected in the Rule V Draft by the Red Sox in December 2006. He bats and throws right-handed.

[edit] Minor Leagues

After attending Lassen College in Susanville, California, Debarr was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 14th Round (404th pick overall) of the 2002 amateur entry draft. Debarr signed and made his professional debut with the Princeton Devil Rays of the Appalachian League. Later in the 2002 season, he moved to the Class A Hudson Valley Renegades in the New York-Penn League.

In 2003, Debarr enjoyed a successful season with Class A Charleston in the South Atlantic League, going 11-7 in 27 appearances - including 20 starts - with two complete games.

In 2004, Debarr split his time with Class A Bakersfield of the California League as a starter and reliever.

In 2005, he underwent Tommy John surgery, causing him to miss the entire season.

In 2006, Debarr made a successful comeback with Class A Visalia of the California League making 40 relief appearances and amassing a 4-3 record with a 2.74 ERA.

Following the 2006 season, the Boston Red Sox selected Debarr in the December Rule V Draft. Under the terms of this draft, Debarr must spend the entire 2007 season on the major league roster, or be offered back to the Devil Rays for $25,000.
