Nicholas Spano

Nicholas Spano represents District 35 in the New York State Senate. Currently the Senior Assistant Majority Leader, Senator Spano was first elected in 1986, and serves on the Rules, Transportation, Finance, Education, Health, and Racing, Gaming, and Wagering committees in addition to chairing the Senate Investigations Committee.

On November 16th, 2006, Senator Spano conceded defeat to his Democratic challenger, Westchester County Legislator Andrea-Stewart Cousins. Stewart-Cousins defeated Senator Spano after having narrowly lost her 2004 challenge to him by 18 votes and amidst allegations of voter intimidation.

Spano was the only member of the entire New York State Legislature to be defeated on November 7, 2006, although a few state legislators were defeated in the September primary.

He is a graduate of Iona College in New Rochelle, New York.
