The term Nica is an toponym used for Nicaraguans or people of Nicaraguan heritage. This term is often used in Costa Rica in a derogatory manner, but many Nicaraguans refer to themselves this way, as well.
Nica is a racist term generally in Costa Rica for there are stereotypes about them and are generally hated because of their heritage. Most Nicaraguans escape Nicaragua and travel into Costa Rica because of its stable position. Nicaragua is in horrible state right now so it is obvious why they want to escape. Most Nicaraguans escape illegaly and through the mountains and take up many Costa Rican jobs. Nica is a very degrading term especially for people of Nicaraguan Heritage, yet they are heavily discriminated for their place in Costa Rican society.
