[edit] History
Prior to October 1998, when CTV Sportsnet purchased the national rights to NHL games, TSN would show games, usually twice a week. A higher percentage of games featured Canadian teams, more out of town updates were showcased (and promoted in the opening theme), and the studio was of a more traditional nature. Bob McKenzie was still the studio announcer in those days, with the games being announced by Jim Hughson and later Paul Romanuk, with Gary Green providing colour analysis.
[edit] Maple Leaf Nation
Along with NHL games shown across Canada, TSN also airs select Toronto Maple Leaf games, presented by Molson, in the area defined by the NHL at Maple Leaf Nation. Maple Leaf Nation, is defined as...

- The broadcast boundaries for TSN's regional Leafs games are set by the NHL with the interests of all of the league's teams in mind. TSN is contractually obligated to follow the rules set by our NHL partners. The boundaries for most games are roughly defined as follows: Leafs Region -- Ontario (excluding Ottawa Senators region). All of Ontario west of the approximate boundary from Brighton to Petawawa, is the regional Maple Leafs broadcast territory. NOTE: When another network broadcasts an NHL game coast-to-coast, the NHL restricts our regional broadcasts to within a 50-mile radius of the arena where the game is taking place. This is not TSN's decision. In both cases we must legally comply with the rules set by the NHL. ** [1]
Those within Maple Leaf Nation who receive TSN on analog cable will receive TSN2, the alternate broadcast the network provides, while the remainder of Canada receives the national feed of TSN. On Satellite, an alternate channel number is used for Toronto.
Games broadcasted on TSN are hosted by Joe Bowen and Harry Neale. Both men only broadcast Maple Leaf games on TSN.
