[edit] Childhood
Nguyễn Lộc was born as eldest of five children. His parents Nguyễn Dinh Xuyen and Nguyễn Thị Hoa moved often, partially due to the colonialisation of Vietnam by the French. They finally settled near to Hà Nội.
[edit] Developing Vovinam
As Nguyễn Lộc was old enough his father asked an elder martial arts master to teach Nguyễn Lộc traditional martial arts and wrestling. This should improve his ability to defend himself as well as his general health.
In the following years he studied the traditional martial arts, wrestling and eastern philosophy. Also due to suggestions by his masters he even traveled abroad to study the foreign martial arts and philosophies.
1938 Nguyễn Lộc introduced his style "Vovinam" to the public. After a demonstration 1939 in Ha Noi Vovinam quickly spread across the country.
[edit] Death
After Nguyễn Lộc's death 1960 Grandmaster Le Sang continued the development and worldwide distribution of Vovinam.
